Introduction

If you’ve ever sat there staring at someone, wondering what to say next, you’re not alone. Running out of things to say is one of the most common fears for guys talking to girls or pretty much anyone else.

Good news, though it can be fixed. Running out of things to say isn’t about “not knowing what to say” – it’s about not knowing how to think in the moment.

Guys constantly ask, “What do I say next?” But that question misses the point. Because conversations aren’t linear or a script. They’re in the moment. They’re emotional. They’re built on energy, not logic.

Step 1: Stop Treating It Like a Stage Performance

The first mistake people make is thinking they have to be some amazing stand-up comedian or master storyteller every second of the conversation. That mindset will stress you out and give you performance anxiety.

Instead of thinking,

“I need to keep this conversation going,”

Reframe it to:

“Let’s see what comes up next.”

You’re not auditioning for a talk show. You’re just connecting with another person and getting to know them. If you let go of trying to be perfect, you’ll relax and things will flow normally.

Step 2: How to Keep the Conversation Going:

Self-Amusement First

If you’re not entertained, she won’t be either. Self-amusement means you’re saying things because they entertain you, not because you’re trying to impress her.

“Okay, random question, but I need you to be brutally honest. Have you ever Googled something embarrassing like, ‘Do penguins have knees?’ Be real.”

Conversational Branching

Every sentence she says is a tree branch. Don’t just stay on one topic branch out.

Example:
She says, “I just got back from Italy.”

You could branch to:

  • “What city did you love the most?”
  • “I’m jealous. What did you eat that ruined all future pizza for you?”
  • “Do you speak Italian? Say something seductive in Italian right now.”
  • “Were you solo traveling or on a group thing?”
  • “Traveling alone is the best cheat code for self-growth, I swear.”

One topic = 10+ directions. Milk the moment.

Cold Reads

Use your observations to spark conversation. Look at her vibe, style, tattoos, rings, and even energy.

“You’ve definitely been to Burning Man at least once, haven’t you?”
“Okay, I’m getting theater kid energy. Am I way off?”
“You seem like the type to fake sick just to stay home and watch crime documentaries.”

Wrong or right doesn’t matter. It’s a hook. She’ll correct you, laugh, or lean in.

Emotion > Information

People don’t bond over facts. They bond over feelings.

So when you’re stuck, stop asking logical questions like:

“What do you do for work?”

And instead go:

“What’s something that gives you an unreasonable amount of joy?”
“What’s a moment that made you feel completely alive recently?”
“What’s your weirdest ick? I need to know what I’m up against.”

Emotions keep her talking. And they make you memorable.

If a topic feels dead, move. You don’t need permission.

Use phrases like:

  • “Speaking of [nothing related]…”
  • “You just reminded me of something random.”
  • “That’s actually hilarious. Have you ever noticed how…”

Curiosity is your best friend. If you’re genuinely interested in the other person, you’ll never run out of things to say.

Ask open-ended questions that can’t be answered with a yes or no.

Step 3: Share Your Own Stories and Flirt With Her

Don’t turn it into an interrogation. Share some of yourself, too

Conversations are not an interview. Be willing to share and open up

Playful teasing and humor are the best way to keep a conversation alive.

If she says she’s into hiking, joke about how you’d need to bring snacks or you’d pass out halfway up the hill. If she says she likes spicy food, pretend to be shocked and act like she’s trying to kill you with spices.

Playful energy keeps things light and fun

You don’t have to have the most amazing stories or clever lines. The best conversations happen when you’re relaxed and being the real you.

Forget about impressing her or being the perfect guy. She’ll feel way more comfortable being with the real you, and the conversation will flow naturally.

Step 4: Practice

never run out of things to say to women

You won’t get perfect at this just by reading articles or watching YouTube videos. The more you put yourself out there and talk to people, the better you’ll get

Every conversation is a chance to practice, so treat it like that. Don’t put pressure on yourself to be flawless. Progress over perfection.

Some ideas to help for conversations:

1. “By the way” transitions

“By the way, do you believe in fate or is everything random?”

2. Hypotheticals

“If we had to rob a bank together, what would your role be?”

3. Reverse Questions

Instead of asking her about something, ask what she thinks about you.
“Be honest—what was your first impression of me when I walked in?”

 4. Roleplays

“Okay, you’re my lawyer. I’m being sued for being too charming. How do you defend me?”

 5. Callback Jokes

Reference something from earlier in the convo. It makes the interaction feel layered and alive.
“See? You’re still mad about the pineapple pizza thing. I knew it.”

What to Do When You Still Go Blank

Here’s the secret:

Don’t run. Stay. Accept the pause.

Most guys freak out. They eject. They panic. But silence isn’t death, it’s just a reset.

In fact, Silence is sexy. It shows self-trust.

If you need a reset, try:

  • “Have you ever gotten that moment with someone amazing where your brain just freezes and forgets every word it knows? Just happened.”
  • “Okay, I was so into what you were saying that I literally forgot what I was going to say next.”

Stop putting pressure on yourself to be perfect or interesting all the time. Instead, focus on being present and engaged. The rest will take care of itself.

Most guys run out of things to say because they’re:

  • Too focused on performance
  • Afraid to say something childish
  • Trying to be liked

FAQ on How to Not Run Out of Things to Say

What if my mind goes blank mid-conversation?
Take a breath, look around for inspiration, or shift to a lighter topic. Don’t panic

How can I be more interesting?
Live an interesting life, try new things, and have real hobbies. That energy carries into every conversation

Is it bad to talk about deeper topics?
Not at all. Just read the room and go with the flow. If she’s down for it, go deeper

Should I always be the one leading the conversation?
Not always let her share too. It’s about balance. If she is an extrovert, let her talk more. If she is an introvert, you carry more of the conversation.

5. What if we just have no chemistry
Sometimes it’s just not a match. No shame in that. Make her a friend. Move on and keep practicing with other girls.
